Buffy - Episode 91: "Blood Ties"

We see Dawn standing in the doorway. A large knife in one hand, blood running down her other arm from a wound across the inner forearm.
DAWN: (dazed) Is this blood?

We see Joyce and Giles across the room, turning to look.
BUFFY: Dawn!
JOYCE: Oh, baby.

Buffy and Joyce rush over to Dawn.

BUFFY: What did you do?!
DAWN: This is blood, isn't it? It can't be me. I'm not a key. (Buffy looks shocked) I'm not a thing.
JOYCE: Oh, sweetie, no. Wha-what is this all about?
DAWN: (grimly) What am I? (getting teary) Am I real? Am I anything?
She begins to cry. Joyce hugs her. Buffy watches grimly, also a little teary-eyed.

Buffy - Episode 123: "Lessons"

SPIKE: (Yelling) Don't you think I'm trying? I'm not fast. I'm not a quick study. (Suddenly crying) I droped my board in the water and the chalk all ran. Sure to be caned. (Laughs) Should've seen that coming.

He moves away from Buffy into a corner, but she follows. His unbuttoned shirt was loose, but he covered his chest with it, crossed his arms, and leaned his back against the wall. She reaches for his shirt to see what he was hiding. He looks away. There are numerous deep gashes on the upper left side of his chest, like he has been clawed.

BUFFY: What did you do?

SPIKE: I tried... I... tried to cut it out.

ER - Episode 164/227257: "If I Should Fall From Grace"

Carter and Susan speak with Grace about the marks on her arm. She explains to them that she use to be a cutter, but she no longer does it. She also tells them that she also use to have an eating disorder. She says that she has received treatment for the disorders and that she is better now. Susan sees that she has new cuts and decides that she needs to be sedated.

Nicole goes upstairs and closes the bathroom door. A few minutes later, Mary comes upstairs and opens the door by accident. She is shocked to find Nicole in front of the bathroom mirror. She is "cutting" her arm with a razor. Nicole suddenly sees Mary.

Stan: [turns to address Cartman] Right, so it's possible that the theif sat out in that tree. [the scenario begins. A view into the bedroom from the tree at night] He would have watched Sarah with the doll, possibly while cutting the palms of his hands with a large knife. [a hand appears, then the opposite hand with a knife. The knife cuts the first hand as Sarah drops her doll on the bedroom floor] The pain gave him sick pleasure.

The victim, Ashleigh, had "attacked" her face because she didn't think she was perfect.

Grissom comments; "I mean, Ashleigh was convinced that everything about her needed to be fixed. The real problem was inside her head. She couldn't deal with that so she tried to fix the outside. Hence, the digging and picking and purging and bleeding.

To us, it would be torture. To her ... some sort of release."
